Neuro wasn't satisfied with Imuran and we looked at alternatives. Started with 1000mg pill Twice/Day and increased to 1500 mg Twice/Day.

I had my initial appointment with the Neuro in July and he prescribed Mestinon to see if it would help with my symptoms. After several more tests were performed, I was finallyd diagnosed at the end of August. It was at this time, I was prescribed Cellcept.

Started with 500mgs 2x/day Quickly changed to 1000mgs 2x/day. Took about 2 months to start kicking in and by the sixth month I was doing great!

I was started on 2 grams/day, but inadvertently was taking 1 gram/day for the first 2 weeks. I went on 3 grams cellcept/day at the end of July 2001. I was still getting transient episodes of chewing, swallowing and slurred speech problems and my blood work showed my ACHR Antibody levels were still around 35, so my neurologist prescribed 5 IVIgs in October 2001.

  I thank this list for the information especially Paul in Arizona.  I passed it on to my Neurologist and he collected more information from Rush-Presbyterian in Chicago. I started with 500mg 2x a day for 2 weeks, then 1000mg 2x a day. This was overseen by an Oncologist/Hemotologist who worked closely with my Neurologist.

Initially I was told to continue imuran for a few weeks while beginning cellcept. however, I had lots of stomach probl;ems and swelling in hands and feet while on both drugs so imuran was discontinued after a few day taking cell cept.

I had taken Prednisone (60 mg/day) for 3.5 mos and IVIg every other week and still had significant ptosis and major DV. My local neuro did not like the response (although she would not label me refractory) and sent me to Dr. Drachman. After my exam he recommended that I start on Cellcept and Cyclosporine (Neoral). The cyclosporine is faster acting whereas the Cellcept can take up to 6 mos to kick in. This is why they started me on both -- the cyclo is not for long term (or so I have been told). Once things are stabilize I will be having a thymectomy done at Hopkins. When I saw my local neuro in mid-September she was astounded by the improvement -- no ptosis and much better alignment.

Took  while on cyclosporine for 3 months the tapered off cyclosporine.

500 bid over one week and increase to 1000 bid.

Started at 500mg in am and pm, had insomnia and changed to 1000mg in am only and have now increased to 1500mg in am only.

titre up to a 2000 mg daily level which I will reach in another 2 weeks. After that I will remain at this level and we will see how it is working. When it is working to his satisfaction the doctor will star to try and wean me off the Prednisone, gradually. He also insisted that I take a 50,000 mg vitamin D pill twice a week to help avoid bone density drain. The D apparently helps the body utilize Calcium better.
